Christian Hackenberg is Trying to Reinvent Himself

Anyone out there who follows the comings and goings of 4th-string QBs may want to sit up and pay attention.

Christian Hackenberg, who is apparently a real live boy on an actual NFL roster, is radically changing his approach to the game.

The former Penn State pigskin launcher and current New York Jet has sought the guidance of a QB coach in a desperate attempt to remain employable.

Yeah, good luck with all that.

You may recall Hackenberg being inexplicably drafted by the Jets in the second round of the 2016 NFL draft.

Now in theory, being drafted by the Jets to play QB seems like a good opportunity to, well, play QB.

However, this theory doesn't apply to Hackenberg because he's not very good at football.

Somehow, he hasn't managed to see the field in a regular season game in two years, while the likes of Geno Smith and Bryce Petty have actually started games for the Jets.

Since we have no regular season game footage of this dude, let's have a look at some explosive pre-season action from 2017 against the Tennessee Titans.

Based on this sample, it appears dude's pretty accurate from between, say, five to seven yards, but any throw beyond that distance has almost zero chance of being completed.

Oh, and his night apparently ended with a lost fumble, which is deliciously appropriate.

The Jets did just release the aforementioned Petty to make room for the freshly drafted rookie Sam Darnold.

Of course, in the context of Hackenberg's future, this means nothing, as he will still have to beat out Teddy Bridgewater to even remain on the roster.

We wish him all the best, but that QB guru would be doing everyone a favor if he simply whispered something about trade school instead of working on those throwing mechanics.
