The NFL's Still Trying to Figure Out How to Describe a Catch
Really, how hard is it?
A receiver hauls in a football, gets both feet down, and makes a football play if he's not dropped on the spot.
But since the NFL is the most pompous outfit in professional sports, plain English just isn't good enough.
Because, you know, poor people talk that way.
That's really one part of the issue here.
The NFL thinks they know all the best words. Apparently, anything less might desecrate their bible of a rule book.
Besides, it needs to keep up with replay technology that's damn near the envy of nuclear physicists.
How does The Shield screw thee?
Let us count the ways:
In an effort to restore a modicum of common sense -- playground rules that everyone understands -- the Competition Committee will recommend a return to simpler days:
After much deliberation & input from coaches, players, @NFLLegends, & club executives, the @NFL Competition Committee will recommend the following language simplifying the catch rule at the Annual Meeting next week. pic.twitter.com/hJwH5YYBRK

That part of the world that cares awaits with bated breath.
Whether or not that includes nuclear physicists remains to be determined.
