The Giants Are Parking Manning's Patootie

Usually, 2-9 teams can cloak their incompetence in relative national obscurity.

That doesn't work in the Big Apple.

Especially when the news is about their last elite player standing, who just happens to be wearing two rings.

Even more especially when the headline signals the end of his time with the team.

With that offensive line and what's left of a receiving corps, the G-Men are probably doing Manning a favor.

All season long, dude's been only a snap away from an injury protocol for one or more body parts.

He's all choked up about it now -- and frankly, that's more than understandable -- but this franchise isn't a fit for him anymore, anyway.

Thing is, why force the 36-year-old slinger to hang around if they feel he's got no gas left in the tank?

The Giants should let him go now and get on with their own tanking.

They'd just better hope this decision won't turn out like the last organization that jettisoned their star before his time. It didn't work out so well for Dos Equis.

They wound up having to bring in a third-stringer themselves to salvage what had been an illustrious campaign that's now on the rocks.

At least Eli won't have to look very far for advice.

And while Denver does look like it could use a veteran hand on the controls, it could be they're simply a mile-high version of the Giants.

Still, Manning should have a soft landing in a better situation somewhere to add to what's currently a decent career résumé.

Dude should take solace in the thought that moves like his benching are why the Giants are in this situation in the first place.

Better to get out now and look forward to his own future.
