Taggert Takes Florida State Job; Oregon Rues the Timing

A month ago, Oregon AD Rob Mullens must've been tempted.

Über-tempted.

Like everyone else, dude was well aware of Jimbo Fisher's constant bitching about Florida State's falling behind other programs in terms of available cash and facilities. Not to mention a restless fan base bitching about Fisher.

He also knew that Texas A&M was moored at his door with a shipload of cash and state-of-the-art facilities.

And there the Ducks were with a bright coach in the process of reviving their football fortunes and strong roots in Florida.

Mullens also knew Chip Kelly was out there in the broadcast world and itchy to return to the sidelines.

Did the thought ever cross his mind that he should make a proactive move as aggressive as Kelly's offenses?

It seems like dude was laying tracks, but the horses were outta the barn by then.

It took Mullens until last week to offer Taggart a contract sweetener that shoulda been done in early November when the rumblings were growing louder.

Just like those from two programs that were perking up Kelly, who soon thereafter signed with UCLA.

He who hesitates, dude.

The Bruins had already figured that out. They were all over Kelly to the point that not even common decency would deter them.

So, here the Ducks are, waving a reluctant goodbye to Taggart and sifting through another shortlist.

Of course, there's no guarantee the Chipster woulda done a Ducks 2.0 thing. Dude chapped a few admin asses when he got outta town before Oregon got probationized due to his questionable outsourcing of recruiting activities.

The college coaching carousel is more cutthroat than the NFL's, and now Mullens finds himself back in the market to deal with it.

Meanwhile, the Seminoles just got itself a hella upgrade.
