Shell Shocked

The Maryland Terrapins walked into Doak Campbell Stadium today 4-0 and with a newfound sense of confidence that this program hasn't felt in years.

However, that newfound confidence was completely eradicated after the Florida State Seminoles laid a good old fashioned butt-whooping on the Terps to the tune of a 63-0.

Bovada had the Seminoles as a 17-point favorite, but no one -- not even I, an FSU fanatic -- could have imagined the drubbing the Terps took. Maryland seemed totally unprepared, outclassed, outworked, and downright flat from the beginning.

Given the opportunity to prove themselves as potential contenders in the ACC, Maryland laid a goose egg. The Seminoles took advantage of every singe opportunity that was presented to them, while the Terps couldn't even seem to make it past the 50-yard line.

Maryland, ranked 25th in the country according to the Associated Press, certainly underscored how poorly the pollsters evaluate teams.

This was the Terps' time to make a name for themselves. Now, they're left to wait for another opportunity like this to arise from the football deities.

If I was Coach Edsall, I would take the videotape from this game, break it into pieces and then dip those pieces in sulfuric acid. Maryland simply didn't show up for this game at all, which is truly a shame, considering this was highlighted as the ACC game of the week. Unfortunately, Coach Edsall will take the majority of the blame here, as all head coaches do.

My final thought: Maryland, you're not there yet, and now, after 59 years with the ACC, you're moving to the Big Ten.

Good luck.
