Clemson Cans QB over Incident with Miss South Carolina

Clemson's 2014 season took a major hit yesterday when head coach Dabo Swinney dismissed quarterback Chad Kelly from the team.

Kelly was supposed to compete for the starting position.

At the time, no one knew exactly what happened until now. Apparently, Kelly had a run-in with the 2012 Miss South Carolina and current intern with the Gamecocks, Ali Rogers, which figured prominently in his dismissal.

Rogers released this statement Monday night:

"I would like to explain exactly what happened in regards to Chad Kelly, who was dismissed from the Clemson Football team today. Last Thursday night, he was riding with someone who backed into my car in my apartment complex. I said I was going to call the police to file the proper report, and Chad got out of the car, asking me not to call. He became very agitated and was extremely disrespectful. As proud as I am to be part of the Clemson Football program, it was very disheartening that he showed no remorse for his behavior."

If you read the rest of the release, you'd think Rogers was doing PR for the Tigers. If she's not, she should be.

She didn't blame Clemson coaches for Kelly's behavior and basically hinted that he's been in trouble before.

There are also reports out there that Kelly had gotten into it with Clemson coaches, so this latest incident sounds like it was the last straw.

I'm sure Kelly will end up at a junior college or a FCS school to finish out his career, but he'll do it without a glowing recommendation from Clemson. That's the way it went down with Cam Newton at Florida, though, so if Kelly can get his act together -- and make certain his dad doesn't shop him around -- he's got a shot at reviving his career.
