The ACC's Version of a Super Blue Blood Moon Just Happened

It's not every day someone or something gets out in front of NASA.

While the space agency and astronomers everywhere are quivering with anticipation over what's supposed to appear for the first time in 152 years, the ACC offered up a special event of its own.

But first, you're probably asking yourself ...

What in the name of werewolves everywhere is a super blue blood moon?

Don't say you weren't notified.

Fortunately, there was no mooning on the court today, but there were a hela lotta super blue bloods.

And they both lost.

Duke got ground down by Virginia, 65-63, at that legendary building right next to Krzyzewskiville:

The Dookies didn't do themselves any favors at the free throw line -- just 5-11 -- and were so stifled by the Hoos' D that Coach K saw almost zero opportunity to sub out the starters.

In fact, the Blue Devil bench only accounted for six minutes of playing time, scoring nary a point.

This was Virginia's first victory at Duke in 23 years, so there's joy in Hooville tonight.

Journey down Tobacco Road a ways, and another rare event popped up.

With North Carolina State dumping North Carolina, 95-91, this also becomes one of those few seasons when the Wolfpack have beaten both the Tar Heels and Blue Devils in the same season.

The last time both Duke and North Carolina lost at home on the same day was in 1973, in a bygoneera before the gods saved Earth from disco.

Now, it's happened in a year of the super blue blood moon.

This cosmic thing is far out.

Well, come March, North Carolina State and Virginia are planning on doing just that.
