Dubs Go into Ultra-Load Mode, Sign Boogie Cousins
Here's a thought:
Why don't the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets just schedule a best-of-81 series right now and let the rest of the NBA West battle it out with the Big 3 dudes for who buys drinks in April?
Maybe the Los Angeles Lakers can duke it out with the Rockets for that spot the season after.
The Dubs' signing DeMarcus Cousins is like paying $1 for a paperweight at a yard sale and finding out it's the Maltese Falcon or something.
What a soft landing for the Boogie man!
- He's joining the club with just possibly the best training facilities in the NBA,
- He's under no pressure to hurry his timeline because, well, it's the Dubs,
- He's still gonna have ample opportunity to raise his market value when he does return, and
- He's got lotsa room in his trophy case.
Now what does the rest of the NBA do?
Frankly, it's not like superteams are hurting the league. Ratings are actually up even though most of the NBA's clubs are no-hopers for titledom.
At least the also-rans will get a home game against Golden State, which is more than, say, the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns, Arkansas State Red Wolves, and Citadel Bulldogs can say about Alabama visiting them.
It's not like dynasties aren't good for business:
- Look at the New York Yankees in their various overlord modes,
- Not to mention Bill Russell's Boston Celtics,
- Or the various mini-empires of the New York Islanders and Edmonton Oilers,
- And then there's the New England Patriots, one way or another.
But, as that late, great sage Lou Reed said, those were different times. In today's environment of more entertainment choices, what might it take for sentiment to shift?
When Cousins does set foot on the court, who's gonna wonder anymore about what happens on a rare day when both the Splash Brothers and Kevin Durant have off-games?
After all, now the Dubs have now got a triple-double waiting to erupt whenever it suits them:
It's all one can do to remember these dudes are mortal, so there's that.
But not much else.
