Liverpool Blows 3-0 Lead at Sevilla; Settles for a Draw

Talk about ignoring prosperity!

There Liverpool was, sitting atop the Champions League Group E by a lone point, amassing a huge lead against its closest challenger, and ... poof.

That's why the definitive term wasn't insurmountable league.

Because the Reds let themselves get mounted.

It doesn't take a real leap to accept that both Sevilla and the 'Pool were atrocious in their own ends.

They simply took turns dominating halves in this 3-3 draw.

Better put, they traded 45-minute screw-up segments:

Yielding the lead -- and two points -- in the third minute of injury time fit right in with the Reds' campaign in Europe this season.

Clearly, they've left points on the field in all three of their group draws to date. They shoulda left vapor trails on the other three.

The Sevillistas have lost at home only once -- to Juventus last year -- in their last 25 matches, but that's not really a testament to Liverpool's efforts, either.

It was more like the hosts were due to have a bad match. For a half, anyway.

The final round of group play will occur on Tue 5 Dec:

  • Sevilla travels to Slovenia to mop up with NK Mirabor, and
  • Spartak Moscow needs a victory at Anfield to keep its dwindling bracket hopes alive.

The degree of dwindle will depend on whether or not the Reds can remember to take their brains with them for a full 90.
