Liverpool Top Leicester and Go Top of the League

Sights were set on different targets at King Power Stadium today:

  • Liverpool was intent on maintaining their perfect start to the season, and
  • Leicester wanted the distinction of being the first to score against Alisson.

In that respect, both sides had something to show from the match, but the 'Pool's 1-2 triumph clearly had much more substance.

And Alisson will survive the experience.

It didn't take Jürgen Klopp's crew to establish themselves in this one.

In the 10th minute, Andy Robertson delivered a killer cross to Sadio Mané, who made no mistake:

There were other moments that confirmed the writing on the wall, like when Mohamed Salah blew a clear chance going one-on-one with Kasper Schmeichel.

But these things happen.

By the 25th minute, though, the Foxes started to control possession and were much closer to equalizing than conceding another to the Reds.

James Maddison was providing quality service and ultimately assisted Demarai Gray, whose finish was well saved by Alisson:

Despite all that, in the cusp of intermission, the Reds doubled their lead.

A good corner from James Milner set up an aerial victory for Roberto Firmino over Maddison. Dude then proceeded to beat Schmeichel:

Leicester didn't know it at the time, but their lovely parting gift came in the 63rd minute.

Virgil van Dijk -- who's rapidly distinguished himself as a valuable pillar for Liverpool -- was pressurized and passed the ball back to Alisson. For some reason, the Brazilian tried to dribble past Kelechi Iheanacho but failed.

The Foxes’ striker simply dished it to Rachid Gezzal, who didn't waste the opportunity.

The final half hour found Leicester discovering that resistance is futile.

The 'Pool is one solid outfit.

Barring the unforeseen, this crew's gonna be challenging for the championship all season long.
