It was considered a given that perennial Bundesliga titles Bayern Munich would be a shoo-in to keep their quest for international hardware intact.
The German dynamo ran into more resistance than they or the pundits expected, but they managed a 2-2 draw in Lisbon over Benfica, advancing on their 3-2 aggregate.
