Chelsea Edges Closer to the Top

There's no place like home for Antonio Conte's crew.

In fact, once Chelsea got settled in this season -- their only two Premiership home losses were to Burnley on 12 Aug and Manchester City on 30 Sep -- dudes are undefeated at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues have been 5-0-0 since.

OK, that's a cheesy reference to the famous Stamford Bridge, but it's fitting for Chelsea's home form right now.

With that sorta buildup, it's not hard to see why punters would lay heavy juice on the home side when Premiership newbies Brighton & Hove Albion came to town.

The 2-0 result was more comfortable than even that score looked.

The Seagulls made it clear from the start that stealing away with a point was their only realistic strategy, and to their credit, it worked for a half.

However, it began going the way of the dodo bird just after the break, when Álvaro Morata used his expensive noggin to open the scoring in the 46th minute:

The clincher came from Marcos Alonso, who's usually known for the game's second-best left foot.

In this one, though, dude also used his head to seal the deal.

As hot as they are at home, the Blues need to match that form on the road.

Even then, they'll need help to catch Manchester City:

That's like a 5½-game gap.

One never knows in sports, but odds are they realize what they're really doing the rest of this season is placing their focus on securing a spot in Europe.

Dudes definitely have the tools to get that job done.
