Red Wing Matches Record for Quickest OT Goal

This will likely be the only time we'll ever see Andreas Athanasiou and Alex Ovechkin in the same sentence.

But dude's matched the precocious Russian in at least one NHL category.

Sending fans home really early when they were preparing to stay late.

Frankly, Athanasiou's actually making up for lost time.

Unfortunately, that's only a metaphor.

The left winger blew his entire summer waiting for a free agent contract that never came. The only deal on the table was Detroit's, and by the time Athanasiou woke up to that fact, he was losing the equivalent of $10,000 a day.

Incidentally, here are ten reasons the Red Wings offered Athanasiou a two-year, $1.9million deal, which happen to be the same ten reasons why he thought he could get more:

Maybe next time.
