Sam Darnold Puts the W in J-E-T-S-W, Jets, Jets, Jets!

Who knew a white kid from the mean streets of San Clemente, California would be ready for the crucible that is MetLIfe Stadium when it's the New York Jets' turn to play there?

Then again, back in the day, who knew that the Knack would be the second coming of the Beatles?

Until they weren't.

The Jets have been so desperate for the next Joe Namath that they've already gone totally ditzo over the youngest QB to ever start an NFL game.

That'd be none other than the poised, the upside-teemer, the USC-hardened Sam Darnold.

Who knew that shredding a Detroit Lions pass defense that ranked 27th in the NFL last season would be a thing?

Still, this is the Jets we're talking about. They've had a Savior wanted sign on their door since Broadway Joe made the only guarantee that ever had any cred in the NFL.

And now, they've got Darnold.

What's the first sign Jets fans think he's special?

Dude never got booed on his historic first TD pass as a pro:

And he damn near brought the house down on his second TD pass a a pro:

History was just bustin' out all over as the team originally known as the Titans remained undefeated after Week 1 with this 48-17 massacre of the Lions.

As anyone who witnessed Darnold's freshman season at USC can attest, dude's got the package.

He can definitely throw:

And it looks like he's found his favorite receiver already. Quincy Enunwa hauled in six passes for 63 yards.

All in all, it was a night so riveting and awash with visions of sugarplums that for all we know, even the city's crime rate took a break to soak in the giddiness.

But as anyone who witnessed Darnold's sophomore season at USC can attest, epic performances -- and even quality outings -- can be a fleeting thing with him.

Hopefully, the mania surrounding him will last longer than the Knack's.
