Pats Cut Hernandez after Arrest

After a week of speculation, the Boston police have finally arrested New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez.

Hernandez is believed to be involved in the murder of Odin Lloyd, whose body was found near Hernandez's home a few weeks ago.

Although he has been taken into custody, the police have yet to comment on what the charges against Hernandez may actually be. That is expected to be explained later today.

Obviously, the Patriots have a good idea as to their nature, because soon after his arrest, the tight end was cut from the team.

A spokesman from the NFL made this statement about this morning's developments:

"The involvement of an NFL player in a case of this nature is deeply troubling. The Patriots have released Aaron Hernandez, who will have his day in court. At the same time, we should not forget the young man who was the victim in this case and take this opportunity to extend our deepest sympathy to Odin Lloyd's family and friends."

The Patriots are a team that does not like distractions (witness the Tim Tebow signing, most likely against the will of Bill Belichick), but in this case, they don't have a choice. Eventually they'll have to talk about this situation whether they want to or not.

Given Belichick's not-so-cozy relationship with a podium of any kind, that should be an event in itself.
