Namath: Brady Hated Because He Wins Super Bowls and Is Married to a Supermodel.

It's not really a secret that Tom Brady is one of the most hated players in the NFL?

Although we know he's a winner and respected by most in the game, to a wide swath of NFL fans, he's a villain and former New York Jets quarterback Joe Namath explains why.

“It’s the wins ... because he is so visible,” Namath told a New York newspaper. He pointed to the fact that his wife, Gisele Bündchen, is on the cover of countless magazines. “It is human nature to want that success and want to see your own quarterback succeed.

“Opponents having to play against Brady have to be legitimately angry seeing his smile on the sideline after touchdowns. It’s kind of a compliment to be disliked by so many opponents. It comes from winning first.”

Namath should know. He lived that life back in the day. He was the brash young quarterback who loved the ladies and was the face of the NFL. He also was the guy who single-handily made the NFL take the AFL seriously.

And also like Brady, Namath was a pretty boy, and a strong segment of fans, especially men, hate pretty boys. Brady is a great quarterback, and maybe he doesn't get the recognition he deserves mainly because of the guy quarterbacking the other team this Sunday.

He basically carried his team this season, with all the disctractions and injuries the Patriots had.

On the other hand, like almost all quarterbacks, he gets too much credit.

When you hear people like ESPN's Skip Bayless and Colin Cowherd drool all over him, it turns people off. Brady's won three Super Bowls, and yet many fans and media forget he lost two, as well. But no one talks about his legacy being tarnished like they do with Peyton Manning.

If Brady loses Sunday, will NFL experts say he's tarnished his image? Probably not. They'll just remind us he'll head home to his super-model wife and their mansion to count his rings, which will piss the public off even more.
