Colts Owner Arrested for Drug Possession

Just what the NFL needs ... another scandal.

Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay was arrested for four counts of felony drug possession after being arrested Sunday night by Carmel police on preliminary charges of driving under the influence and possession of a controlled substance.

Is there any surprise this could happen to a chip off the old block? His history and personality aren't much different from his father's, who has made and will continue to make any list of the biggest jerks in sports.

This report from 2011 underscores how deeply the animosity remains:

So, according to police, Irsay failed several sobriety tests and was driving slow. That's why police stopped him. Do tell.

They're obviously not Colts fans. If they were, they wouldn't have noticed anything unusual.

They'd already seen the way Irsay was acting and talking crazy about Peyton Manning a few months ago. Most of them were shocked at the lack of respect Irsay showed the reigning co-god of professional football.

The fun part will be what the NFL does with Irsay. We've seen the league take a hard stance against a player with drug problems, but an owner?

How do you keep a billionaire from his team? After all, baseball banned George Steinbrenner for life and still couldn't keep him away. And baseball is actually more organized than football in this stuff.

Roger Goodell is probably wishing now that he didn't push back the draft back to May.

Too much can happen between now and then and the way things are going, that's not good for the league.
