Cam Newton’s Dance Party USA

The Carolina Panthers are off to a scorching hot start, winning their first nine games of the 2015 season.

A big part of this surprising renaissance is, of course, enigmatic quarterback Cam Newton, who's playing some very good football and enjoying himself in the process.

Newton is an extremely polarizing figure, with an ego that rivals his talent and a condescending grin that infuriates opponents. Dude's never been shy about celebrating touchdowns, but recently he's taken it to a new level.

Here's an example from this past week in Tennessee:

That was a pretty elaborate routine.

Several Titans took offense to these theatrics, especially in their own house. Their reaction is understandable, although the old adage about stopping the player if you don’t want to watch him dance does apply here.

Newton also managed to raise the ire of a Nashville mother, who attended the game with her daughter and was quite disturbed by his antics, so much so that she penned an open letter directed at him.

A narrative appears to be developing with Newton and his endzone dance party.

In a home victory over the Packers two weeks ago, Julius Peppers grew weary of Newton and took the football away from him after a score, thereby removing an essential dance prop and temporarily disappointing a small child.

Clearly, Newton's having a good time and is not bashful about it. And why not? The Panthers are the class of the NFC at the moment, although their long-term post-season prospects are still in question.

In the meantime, opponents will no doubt continue to tug on Superman’s cape.
