The New York Novella of Derek Fisher

The movie Pearl Harbor is famous for making a love story out of an American tragedy.

What does this have to do with sports?

Well, the tragedy that is the New York Knicks have found themselves in the headlines again.

And no, I’m not talking about the Melo trade rumors.

Knicks Coach Derek Fisher has gotten himself into a great deal of trouble with a current NBA player. Not for his terrible coaching, either.

Dude's become enmeshed in a soap opera-esque novella with the ex-wife of Grizzlies forward Matt Barnes.

Fisher was reportedly spending some time with the former Mrs Barnes, and Matt was none too happy about it. Case in point: he proved his aggressive personality isn't limited to on-court matters, as he jumped in his car and drove 95 miles to “beat the shit out of” his former Laker teammate.

Barnes reportedly attacked Fisher, later texting a friend that he beat him up pretty good.

However, this claim is probably untrue. Fisher wasn't seen with any noticeable scratches or bruises during an interview prior to the Knicks' preseason game in Brazil.

Fisher is reportedly not going to press charges, but the NBA is planning an investigation into the matter.

Who knows what really happened that night? Maybe the incident was as bad as reported, or maybe it was all just a huge misunderstanding.

Either way, stuff like this helps the NBA keep a high off-season profile with its head-shaking off-court stories.
