So, Do the Lakers Get Jiggy on Draft Night?

If reports out of Los Angeles are true -- and pick one; any one -- the Lakers are about to make a major move that may shake up not only the West, but the NBA.

For now, let's stick with this one:

Paul George has announced that, as of 2018, he'll no longer be an Indiana Pacer and wants to be become a Laker.

Therefore, the Pacers are looking into trade possibilities, and that obviously includes the Lake Show.

Sure, Jimmy. Just keep giving us those hard-hitting interviews.

Anyway, just to show what's possible, Los Angeles made a major trade with Brooklyn:

  • The Nets get  D’Angelo Russell and Timofey Mozgov, and
  • The Lakers take Brook Lopez and the 27th pick of the upcoming draft.

That may please the four or five Stanford alumni who are also Laker fans, but ... it's a low-octane deal.

Is this really a cap run for not only George but LeBron James the year after?

The Lakes gotta do more than that to land the big fish.

And, think of it: the King in the same room as a Wazzu alum not named Klay Thompson if Lonzo gets the call on Draft night.

Of course, the Pacers don't really care about all that Left Coast intrigue.

They're just wanting to make a deal that will keep them on the same Indiana interest radar as the Hoosiers, Notre Dame, and Butler.

Tall order. But not impossible.

As to the Lake Show, why aren't they moving mountains to get a man-mountain?

Anthony Davis has no competitive future in New Orleans. He'll be requesting a trade soon, no matter how much loyalty he'll profess to the Pelicans. Los Angeles would need to act faster than Boston in order to get him.

The Celtics have chips to toss around, as in a tall stack of draft choices. Given Danny Ainge's history in the draft, he may as well use them to pry Davis and/or Jimmy Butler away.

The Lakers aren't holding enough right now, either.

Paul George or no Paul George, LA's got some work to do.
