Tammy Abraham's Double Does Frank Lampard Proud

Sometimes necessity makes geniuses outta coaches.

Frank Lampard originally planned to play midfielder Mason Mount behind Tammy Abraham, but when Pedro Rodríguez pulled a hamstring in the pre-game, the Blues' legend-turned-manager had little choice but to shift him to the left.

The result was three goals from those dudes in a 2-3 win over Norwich.

Accompanied, of course, by a huge sigh of relief from a dude who thought he'd have earned his first coaching victory.

Well, it had to happen sometime. It's not like dude was at the helm of Huddersfield or anything.

Abraham showed he was on fire from the very beginning, as he opened the scoring in the third minute.

Mount figured in the build up, when Christian Pulisic played to César Azpilicueta, who picked out Abraham, who slotted home past Tim Krul:

The Canaries found an equalizer only three minutes later through Todd Cantwell.

In fact, he started it all, showing spiffy footwork skills, by passing to Teemu Pukki. The Finn unselfishly walled back to Cantwell, who fired it through Kepa Arrizabalaga's legs:

Undaunted, Chelsea went back ahead in the 17th.

That's when Pulisic -- playing into the side quite nicely, by the way -- found Mount, who made no mistake:

Pukki struck again to make it 2-2 on the half-hour.

He was fed by Emiliano Buendía and knocked it home from a narrow-angle:

Wasn't it, though.

Not so after the break, as both teams dialed down the pace, but there was enough of it for Chelsea to grab a winner.

In the 68th minute, Mateo Kovačić threaded a through-ball to Abraham, whereupon the 21-year-old impressively killed any Norwich defender's hopes to tackle with a first-time touch. Then, he doubled his game tally with an equally impressive finish:

Abraham deservedly got the headlines, but Mount was the Man of the Match with his straightforward, no-nonsense approach, figuring in all three goals.

Both should learn well under Lampard's tutelage. Right now, though, he's gotta be grateful for the knowledge and skills they already have.
