Man City’s March to the Title Stumbles at Burnley

Back at the top tier where their long-suffering fans have always felt they rightly belonged, Burnley just keeps plugging away.

And today, it bore fruit.

The Clarets re-introduced themselves to the high life by edging Chelsea in the first match of the season.

Since then, they've been close in their matches against the Premiership's top six clubs, but moral victories and draws just aren't as satisfying for a side that's proven they can run with that pack.

Manchester City is one of the few top sides to blast Burnley, burying them 3-0 back in October. Thus they set foot on Turf Moor hoping for easy trois points but instead got shocked with only one.

Worse for the league leaders, they thought they were closing in on the whole bundle until a late Claret strike dropped the match into a 1-1 stalemate.

Four the record, this was the fourth time Burnley's held a top six club to a draw.

Mark it down to old-fashioned determination.

City seemed to pick up where they left off in the first meeting between these two, when Danilo put one on the board in the 22nd minute:

There's nothing one can do when a shot's hit that sweetly.

A series of Sky Blue misses followed, but that's never the stat that matters.

Dudes were eventually punished when Burnley’s Jóhann Berg Guðmundsson scored a late equalizer.

You'll see that dude doing the Viking clap for Iceland at the World Cup this summer.

Until then, the Clarets will keep nipping at the big clubs' heels.
