Jesus, Sterling Spark Man City over Everton
Even though OG Sergio Agüero was back from injury, Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola kept this match in the hands of his next wave of leaders.
Specifically, that'd be Raheem Sterling, who'd had quite a week.
Dude handled the ugliness of racial taunts at Chelsea last week with class, which ignited yet another national debate on the ignorance and selfishness of it all and why it just won't seem to go away.
But it doesn't, and Sterling's shown the discipline to not let it affect his game.
This season's not allowing the Citizens a cruise to the Premiership title, and Everton's just the sort of opponent who can rise up and grab points from them.
With Sterling's steady play leading the way, City collected all three on offer in their 3-1 victory.
Leaving nothing to chance, dudes were attacking with all their might right from the start. The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute, after a poor kick from Jordan Pickford. The ball bounded straight to Ilkay Gündoğan, who quickly passed it to Leroy Sané. The German noticed Gabriel Jesus inside the box, did the team thing by dishing to the Brazilian, and the goal was in the books:
The first half ended like that, with Everton necessarily feisty in their own end.
Frankly, the Toffees spent so much time there, they could've been forced to pay rent.
City came out of the break even more determined to salt away the points.
It took only five minutes. Sané delivered a perfectl cross to Jesus, who outjumped Michael Keane and headed home:
Everton kept at it, of course, and in the 65th minute, the match got a little more exciting.
After a takeaway, the ball ended up with French international Lucas Digne, who crossed into the box and found Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Blues were on the board:
Still, City was on a mission.
It only took them three minutes to respond, with Sterling's powerful header sealing the deal:
So there.
