Chelsea Snaps Man City's Unbeaten Streak

In a battle of big brands, Russian mega-dosh carried the day over Abu Dhabi mega-dosh.

Or, in footballing terms, a clash involving two titans that actually have a shot at winning the Premiership.

Going into it, Manchester City was one of only two unbeaten clubs remaining, and they had to stay that way at Stamford Bridge to avoid ceding top spot in the standings to Liverpool, the other unbeaten.

Dudes didn't do it.

Well, in the past few seasons, there haven't been too many agains for the Citizens, but this was one of them

Chelsea, 2-0.

Frankly, that result looks rather ironic in light of the match stats.

Proof yet again that Disraeli had a point.

Long balls were the only way Chelsea could put any pressure on City, and that's how they broke through.

David Luiz found Pedro on the right side in the Blues' own end just before the half. The Spanish striker crossed it over to Willian. Dude took it to the box, dished to Eden Hazard, who waved away City defenders, and dimed NGolo Kante, who rocketed home past Ederson, who could do nothing but pick the ball out of the net:

The second half seemed to display a completely different game from the first one, but the result was the same.

Chelsea started taking advantage of City's high press and found themselves closerto scoring a second than conceding an equalizer, but again, a breakthrough just wasn't there.

As a matter of fact ...

In the 78th, Hazard's corner found David Luiz, who rose higher than John Stones and nicked a looping header straight into the far corner:

Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane chances to net the proverbial lovely parting gift for Pep Guardiola's side, but to no avail.

Another day, perhaps.

Right now, City's loss and Liverpool's 0-4 demolition of Bournemouth means the Reds have displaced the Citizens atop the Premiership:

There may be a sprint to the finish yet.

Nothing like puttin' the Disraeli Gears in motion.
