Dortmund Deals Monaco a 3-0 Drubbing
Not that grabbing max point in any of this season's Champions League group matches isn't a side's top priority, but der BVB had to have something else on their minds tonight.
In this competition's quarter-finals back in the 2016-2017 campaign, Dortmund lost the first leg against Monaco at the Westfalenstadion -- aka Signal Iduna Park -- en route to a 6-3 aggregate drubbing to the fashionable French club.
They had a point to prove to their paying customers and did it with a 3-0 victory over Les Monégasques, ie- Dudes from Monaco.
Monaco hasn't won since their first Ligue 1 match, so it was unusual to see Dortmund on its heels as this one got underway.
The entire first half saw the visitors controlling and probing, but wound up with nothing to show for it.
For that, they paid dearly.
The entire tone changed in the second half, as Dortmund settled down an went to work.
It didn't take long to get results, either. In the 46th minute, manager Lucien Favre subbed Marius Wolf in favor of Jacob Bruun Larsen, and it quickly paid dividents.
Five minutes later, Larsen received a spiffy pass from Jadon Sancho and ended up staring down Diego Benaglio, who wasn't up to the task:
In the 67th minute, Monaco's shape really snapped. It led to Kamil Glik being brought down Marco Reus inside the area. Penalty to Dortmund.
The Spaniard Paco Alcacer scored a direct hit on the post. Bummer for him.
However, in the 72nd minute, dude had the chance to redeem himself when Reus picked him up with a perfect pass. Alcacer dribbled past both Benaglio and defender Andrea Raggi to slot it home:
One never knows when goal difference will figure into the equation in these pool games, so die Borussen added a bitta padding.
Reus did the honors. The captain got a nifty cross from Larsen and fired home into the left corner:
Nothing like making hay when the sun's shining:

Now, their objective is to keep it going in domestic play.
