Chelsea Massacres Huddersfield at Stamford Bridge

The road to becoming a doormat is paved with foreboding and woe.

The last side Premiership bottom-feeder needed to see this weekend was the one that started them off on their road to ruin.

Coincidentally enough, this was an opportune time for Chelsea to rekindle their warm memories of that match by running into Huddersfield Town again.

And rekindle they did. Maurizio Sarri's crew lit up Huddersfield, 5-0, with Eden Hazard and Gonzalo Higuain scoring twice each, not to mention a David Luiz header putting a cherrie on top for the Blues.

Actually, that's an ironic metaphor.

It was just last midweek that Bournemouth blanked the Blues and had Sarri questioning his place in the universe.

However, the Terriers had what ailed him.

Namely, they're the Terriers.

Dudes have won two matches all season and are barely in double figures, points-wise. All the reasons why were on display at Stamford Bridge in this one.

Although the Blues glided to trois points, the first 15 minutes were evenly played, as the visitors were creating a few dangerous chances, mainly through Aaron Mooy.

But really, details, details ...

So it was that, in the 16th minute, Chelsea got down to business, starting with Argentine striker Higuain.

N'Golo Kanté picked him out near the edge of the box, putting Higuain up close and personal with Jonas Lössl:

Huddersfield managed to keep the menace at bay for most of the half, but then, in the 45th minute, Cesar Azpilicueta was fouled in the area.

The referee correctly awarded a penalty, so Hazard stepped up and doubled the lead:

After the break, the Belgian international would add another.

In the 66th, dude gathered in an excellent pass from Ross Barkley, got inside the box, dribbled past Lössl, and fired home from close-range:

Three minutes later, Chelsea started piling on with a Higuain screamer.

Hazard got the ball on the right, passed it to Kanté, who fed Higuain. Dude curled home from outside the box, straight into the top corner:

By this time, it was clear the Blues were taking out their midweek frustrations on a helpless cellar-dweller.

There was time for yet another goal, so why not?

It came in the 86th. Willian's corner found Luiz, who headed home past the unfortunate Lössl:

The win keeps Chelsea ahead of Manchester United, who squeaked out a 0-1 road victory at Leicester.

As to the Terriers, they're still ahead of everyone in the Championship, but that'll only be until May. Dudes are doomed.
