Miami Dolphins Call the Most Poorly Timed Blitz in NFL History
For one confusing quarter of football, the Miami Dolphins transformed into a passable version of an NFL team.
With an assist from still possibly concussed Steelers QB Mason Rudolph and his brutal decision-making, the Fish jumped out to a 14-0 lead, courtesy of two TD passes from the immortal Ryan Fitzpatrick, who channeled some of that mysterious bearded sorcery of his.
Suddenly, an actual victory somehow seemed possible for the winless Dolphins, and in prime time, no less.
But sensing a disturbance in the Force, head coach Brian Flores and his crack staff quickly extinguished all hope with one horrific defensive play call.
With the Dolphins still leading, 14-3, late in the first half, the Steelers were facing a 3rd-&-20 from the Miami 45-yard line.
Then this happened:
Yeah, this is either the worst call Brian Flores has ever made, or his best (tank). Inexcusable zero blitz in that situation. pic.twitter.com/yDONhynqUo

Of course, the former Belichick disciple defended the call afterwards, but we know the truth.
Later in the game, perhaps realizing how transparent that blitz was, Flores put on a show for the cameras:
Safe to say Miami head coach Brian Flores is not happy with the officials 😳

Hey @nflcommish I think we need an investigation into that Brian Flores (Belicheck trained so he’s not an asshole idiot) 3 & 20 defensive play call.. #MIAvsPIT #tankfortua

Brian Flores called a timeout to call an all out blitz on 3rd & 20 right before the half. He’s tanking right on national tv and isn’t even trying to hide it. Embarrassing.

That's correct.
Dude actually called a timeout before the play.
Yeah, we can't look at him either.
