Joe Theismann Grants His No 7 Papal Blessing unto Dwayne Haskins

Dwayne Haskins is a dude who appears to be well-versed on the history of the Washington Redskins.

The Ohio State slinger was selected by the 'Skins after falling all the way down the board to No 15, thanks in no small part to Dave Gettleman's infatuation with Daniel Jones.

Shortly after being drafted, Haskins publicly stated that he'd ask for permission from Mr Theismann to wear his high school and college No 7 jersey.

In case you're wondering, Mr Theismann is indeed a reference to Joe Theismann, the man who once won a Super Bowl as QB for the Redskins wearing that very same number.

This request seemed to please Joe very much, as he was clearly determined to make this attention count.

Instead of simply saying yes, the 1983 NFL MVP decided he would need to have a chat with the young man before signing off on the number.

As far as we can tell, Haskins has no interest in the daughter of Joe Theismann.

While Joe does enjoy having that ego massaged, he did resist the urge to drag this thing out.

The much anticipated sit-down has happened, and wouldn't you know it, Haskins will be allowed to wear the hallowed No 7.

For whatever reason, the dysfunctional Redskins aren't really into retiring numbers, with only Civil War-era QB Sammy Baugh deemed worthy of the honor.

But since the No 7 has been dormant since Theismann retired, it seems silly not to make it official.

Of course, that won't be possible now, but Haskins should take real good care of it.

In fact, he could very well provide a stability at the position not seen since Joe sported the old single-bar facemask so many years ago.

Oh, the irony.
