Virginia Tech Did the Hokie-Hi All Over Florida State

Why wouldn't it be preferable for students want their teams to have a study mascot?

And if it's not possible, make 'em trendy.

As a last resort, get creative, and that's what the Virginia Tech Fighting Gobblers did.

Not that Hokies makes any sense, but with the football team's current coaching staff, they can make the moneyline pay off.

Head coach Justin Fuente is a great offensive mind and trusty sidekick OC Brad Cornelson is molding QB Josh Jackson into his latest NFL prodigy.

But, whoa! That defense! Again!

DC Bud Foster just has a way. Ask Florida State, after the Hokie D -- with only three returning starters -- stifled Willie Taggart's first edition of Seminoles, 24-3:

And to think so many learned minds liked the Seminoles. Sorta adds luster to what the Hokies just strolled into Tallahassee and did.

A performance like Tech's is enough to make damn near anyone to jump on the bandwagon.

Asking -- telling, actually -- college teams to play a key conference game right outta the gate is a bit much, but as the victor in this one, Tech is gonna be top turkey in the ACC Coastal for the rest of September.

They've just gotta keep their guard up until the Dookies host them on Sat 29 Sep.

After that they host Notre Dame. Division rival Miami shows up on Sat 17 Nov, which if chalk holds, could be the game of the season.

From what Week 1 showed, most of that onus will be on the Hurricanes.
