One of the many charms of college football is the presence of live animals roaming around on the sidelines.
As we've witnessed in the past, these beasts can occasionally allow their school spirit to boil over and become unruly.
Looking at you, Bevo XV.
But on our most recent college football Saturday, the animal was on the receiving end of abuse.
In the first quarter at Auburn, the visiting Mississippi State Bulldog mascot found himself the victim of a hate crime:

Bully was actually credited with a solo tackle, but an appearance on the stat sheet is little consolation.
We agree, but sadly there will be no legal recourse for Bully.
However, there's some good news:
Hey Bulldog Nation. Just want everyone to know I am fine!! I’m headed back out on the field now. Thanks for all the tweets and concerns. We love our fans!!! @SECNetwork @espn

Bully is chock full of grit.
This inspirational moment did nothing to improve the chances of the visiting Bulldogs on the field, as they dropped a tight 56-23 decision to the Tigers.

And who could blame it?
Meanwhile, Lee Corso remains a person of interest in the ongoing investigation.
