Iowa Hoops Broadcaster Gets Burned by Hot Mic

You really have to be careful around those microphones.

This is a lesson often learned the uncomfortably hard way by many announcers and broadcasters.

For example, we have the case of Gary Dolphin, who happens to be the hoops radio play-by dude for Iowa.

During a spirited affair between the Hawkeyes and Pittsburgh Panthers, Dolphin and his loyal partner Bobby Hansen had an interesting conversation at halftime about the state of the program.

The industry term for this would be brutal honesty.

However, it turns out these dudes were still on the air, so the entire listening audience was treated to their unfiltered assessment of head coach Fran McCaffery and his recruiting prowess.

Obviously, this was a technical snafu, but we really need to be more cognizant of our surroundings if we're gonna be critical of the very team we're being paid to broadcast.

Suffice it to say, the Iowa athletic department wasn't pleased, suspending Dolphin for two games.

The 14th-ranked Hawkeyes did in fact win the game, overcoming that unfortunate turnover by guard Maishe Dailey, who was singled out by Dolphin for his lack of court awareness.

Of course, this sort of thing happens all the time.

Shame on you, Terry Bradshaw.
