The NBA's G League Is Trying to Take Away Our Free Throws
Listen to this wacky shit.
So the NBA's G League, which is where all radical rules experimentation begins, will be systematically removing our beloved free throws from game play.
Not all of them, of course, but enough to make us think about the grim possibility of a basketball world without the charity stripe.
Basically, it breaks down thusly:
"Under the new experimental NBA G League rule, one free throw worth one, two or three points will be awarded in the event of any foul that would typically result in one, two or three free throws being shot under standard NBA rules."

No thanks. https://t.co/dZNDrzEWug
See, simple.
Well, the point value will remain the same, but the actual number of free throws attempted in games will be reduced.
As you may have already surmised, this is designed to shorten the games in an effort to appease the almighty broadcast partners.
Of course, this may never see the light of day in the big boy NBA, but there's already been feedback from the unwashed masses:
Why is the @nbagleague treating free throws like they don't matter?

They're difference makers and taking that away completely changes to game.
This is a stupid rule change and your decision makers should be reprimanded for being stupid.
If only stupidity were a punishable offense.
Not a good idea. Games come down to free throws. I get speeding up the game but still

Well, the new rule wouldn't apply to the last two minutes of the game or overtime, but point taken.
Here's William Wallace with a final word.
Maybe free throws should be shot outta the ass.
