Spurs Struggle at Stoke but Stay the Course
Tottenham looks dead set on charging into second place as the Premiership season moves down to the waning stages.
Spurs have now drawn even with Liverpool in third, with a game in hand. They're only four points behind Manchester United with each club having six matches left.
For the record, they're done with each other. They split their series this season:
- United won at Old Trafford on 28 Oct, 1-0; and
- Tottenham took the return match at Wembley, 2-0.
For now, that is, and only because Spurs managed to grind out a result in the Pennines foothills, 1-2 at Stoke-on-Trent.
It's usually Harry Kane taking center stage, but this match’s headline was all about the Danish magician, Christian Eriksen:
Top play, combined with a calm finish.
That's so Scandinavian.
The Potters are a rough-&-tumble bunch, though, so it was no real surprise that a bull literally charged through the Tottenham defense and notched the equalizer:
Dude goes by the name of Mame Biram Diouf.
Tottenham have discovered a certain resilience this season, and they displayed yet again that they know exactly know how to bounce back:
Kane wanted that goal for himself, but the football gods decided this was Eriksen’s day.
There will be other opportunities for the HarriKane, of course.
At least, for Spurs' sake, there'd better be.
