Man City's Cruisin' through the Champions League Group F

Looks like the Citizens have finally gotten interested in their Euro season.

For whatever reason, Manchester City takes their own sweet time before showing clubs on the Continent what they're capable of doing.

After an uninspired 1-2 loss to Lyon to begin Champions League play, dudes swatted away 1899 Hoffenheim in what could only be termed a 1-2 uninspired win.

Even though they're virtually assured advancement from Group F by hardly caring, City decided to show they can turn it on when the feel so inclined.

Well, no, but at least they were considerate enough to pop home a few goals in their 0-3 dismantling of Shaktar Donetsk at Metalist Stadium.

Now, that's a name that conjures images of the bad old days ...

The Ukrainian side still has remnants of its Brazilian labor force -- 7 of their 14 players listed were from there -- but nothing they brought to the party could contend with City's vast display of possession and offensive firepower.

That is, when dudes chose to turn it on, like at the half-hour mark, through David Silva. Benjamin Mendy started it all from the left-wing, passing over to Gabriel Jesus -- a higher-end Brazilian -- on the edge of the box. His attempt on net didn't get through, but the ricochet fell to the Spanish international, who fired home a low volley from close-range:

Only five minutes later, City doubled the lead, and Silva was once more involved.

This time, the midfielder set up Aymeric Laporte with a corner that the Frenchman headed home:

After the break, Shakhtar attempted to redouble their efforts, but they found to their frustration they were already giving the game all they had, which had surrendered 14 shots to their visitors.

And they were still choking in vapor trails.

For the hell of it if nothing else, City wrapped up the match through Bernardo Silva in the 70th minute.

The Portuguese international drove forward and slotted home a low effort from distance straight into the bottom corner. 'Keeper Andriy Pyatov had no chance:

City’s offensive maneuvers were so effective that the opportunities for the Ukrainians were rare.

That's the story of their life in Group F, too:

After disposing of this crew in the return match on 7 Nov, City can set their sights on returning a favor to Lyon in France.

If they feel like it, that is.
