Real Madrid Thrashes PSG Right Outta the Champions League
When it comes to who's who in this zoo, there's no real change.
Real Madrid had already amassed a formidable 3-1 lead in their home leg of this Champions League opening round clash, but that apparently wasn't enough for them.
Dudes were out to rub it in over the big brand with no real tradition.
They extended the difference even further with a dominant second leg showing that ended 1-2 in Real’s favor.
The 5-2 aggregate result was somewhat expected.
- PSG were void of creativity in the first leg, as Edinson Cavani rarely saw the ball then and didn't in this one, either; and
- The absence due to injury of Neymar, whose presence probably wouldn't have been enough to make a difference, anyway.
Real opened the scoring when their icon, Cristiano Ronaldo, perfectly timed an excellent cross from Lucas Vázquez:
A wide open header for the dude with the best header in the game, PSG?
The play-by said it all: Game over.
Dudes were done like dinner.
If that headwind didn't take the air outta Parisian sails, this surely didn't help:
Dumb.
PSG did level it for a while when Cavani scored without even knowing:
PSG welcomed any type of goal at that point.
And if there ever was any glimmer of hope for the petro-club, it went the way of the dodo bird when Los Blancos’ Casemiro looped home the pièce de resistance, as it were:
Qatari mogul Nasser Al-Khelaïfi has made no secret that the Champions League title is the only honor that interests him and money's no object in its pursuit.
If so, he'd better find a way to keep his squad interested in being competitive at this level.
