Qatar Says the 2022 World Cup's Still Gonna Happen

Well, whaddaya know ...

After going to great pains to rig the vote and then spend kajillions of dollars on building stadiums with one designed so that damn near every straight dude would wanna enter, the Qatari government announced the 2022 World Cup is gonna go ahead.

Realizing that Covid-19 could well be planning ahead, too -- remember, the Spanish Flu pandemic wandered the glove in three waves over two years -- dudes thought it'd be a good idea to get out in front of the inevitable headlines.

Qatar's small population of 2.8million's got an interesting relationship with the virus right now:

  • The bad news is 65,000 cases have been diagnosed, but
  • The good news is there have been only 49 deaths.

Of course, that'd only be good news to all but 49 people.

Suffice to say, though, they might need a bitta work preventing an outbreak, but they've had a handle on keeping it from getting too drastic.

Yes. Yes, it could.

Like when hordes from all over the globe descend upon it, carrying who knows what in their systems.

The official line is stadiums are 90% complete, and the Qatari foreign minister claims they'll be well-positioned to comply with any health and safety adaptations that might be required to better cope with Covid-19.

If so, that'd be at least one ray of light in their construction, which to date has been another story altogether.

It can literally be said that those buildings are a piece of work.

Then again, this is the best World Cup that money can buy.

And the show's gonna go on.

Hopefully, so will everyone in attendance.
