Not the 2017 Sendoff Arsenal Wanted

Everyone would've liked to end the year on a high note, but the world's just more real than that.

And reality in the form of human judgment just bit Arsenal in the patootie.

Lowly West Bromwich Albion hosted the Gunners for their last match of the 2017 and disappointed Arsène Wenger's crew with a 1-1 draw.

Incidentally, this was a record-breaking day for Wenger, as he managed his 811th match for Arsenal.

Small consolation.

What looked like -- and should've been -- a Gunner walkover continued scoreless till late when the deadlock was finally broken in such a Baggie way.

Arsenal forced West Brom’s James McClean into an 83rd-minute own goal.

It's always Alexis Sánchez -- one way or the other -- with the assist.

And listen to the crowd! Sounds like Gunner nation bought out The Hawthornes.

Still, own-goal karma can be a bitch.

Arsenal was none too pleased when lightning from a black cloud struck near the end:

Talk about harshness near the New Year.

The spot kick that followed was easily converted by Jay Rodriguez one minute from time.

Happy New Year, Arsenal.

And sing Auld Lang Syne for two done-for-you points that you left behind.
