Juventus Own Goal Hands a Comeback Road Victory to Man Utd

There's still a dogfight in progress to determine who goes where in the Champions League Group H.

Juventus' position in the driver's seat would've been confirmed with a victory over hard-on-their-heels Manchester United at the Juventus Stadium.

Cristiano Ronaldo & Co were thisclose to getting the job done, too.

However, José Mourinho’s crew surprised everyone and turned a 1-0 deficit into a 1-2 victory with two late goals.

 

Not sure how that translates into Italian, but the meaning is universal. Dudes were the architects of their own demise.

After a touchy-feely first half, this show finally got on the road after intermission.

 

The Italian side was probably ahead on style points when they confirmed it on the scoreboard. That happened in the 65th minute.

Leonardo Bonucci spied Ronaldo sprinting deep into the area and superbly picked the Portuguese international up from the midfield line. Ronaldo struck a first-time effort outta mid-air, surprising not only Victor Lindelöf but also 'keeper David de Gea, who couldn’t do anything to avoid what's surely a candidate for goal of the year:

 

 

The crowd was still buzzing about what they'd just seen when United struck back.

Then came the ultimate in lovely parting gifts.

Only three minutes after United had pulled even, they were back on the attack.

Ashley Young sent the ball into the area and, after the fog of war that often occurs in times like this, Alex Sandro ended up sending the ball to his own net, sealing victory for the Red Devils:


Juve is still assured a spot in the Europa League round of 32, as if that's a consolation after this result. United, meanwhile, has kept their two-point margin over Valencia, who toyed with the Young Boys, 3-1.
