Manchester City Wallops Watford with an 8-Spot
Damn.
Fans had to be double-checking Watford's Starting XI to see if they actually had a goalkeeper in there.
The Hornets probably knew they were gonna face Manchester City wrath after that shock loss at Norwich City last week. In retrospect, maybe they should've considered putting two 'keepers in the lineup.
Pep Guardiola's side clearly had more than bounce back on their minds. Dudes were looking for statement. Safe to say they got it.
Sparked by a mind-numbing five goals in the first eight minutes -- yes, that's a record -- City laid an 8-0 nuking on the Hornets at the Etihad.
Amid the proceedings, Bernardo Silva scored his first career hat trick and was the man of the match.
Good idea. This is gonna be a rapid-fire hightlight blitz.
City opened their barrage with less than a minute gone. David Silva scored from a Kevin de Bruyne cross:
On 7 minutes, Ben Foster brought down Riyad Mahrez inside the area.
Sergio Agüero was the taker and made it two for the hosts:
A mere five minutes later, Mahrez had his chance to score from a free-kick that he in fact drew.
The Algerian international's attempt was deflected, misdirecting the keeper and finding the promised land:
Then, on the quarter-hour, Nicolas Otamendi assisted Bernardo, who grabbed his first goal with a diving header:
Shades of the Germans destroying Brazil in the 2014 World Cup!
Of course, Watford's no Brazil. At the rate their going -- being an early-stage doormat and all -- they're no Premiership side, either.
City wasn't done.
Three minutes later, Agüero's low cross found Otamendi, who slotted home the fifth of this series:
That sequence was well and truly something to behold.
Point made, City took their foot off the accelerator, no doubt gazing upon the scoreboard and basking at their feat in all of its historical glory.
After the break, Bernardo completed his maiden hatter.
On 48 minutes, dude was picked out by David Silva and scored with a simple finish:
Then, right around the hour mark, the Portuguese drilled one home through Foster's legs:
The massacre was completed in the 85th minute, through a de Bruyne thunderbolt finish from inside the area.
The Belgian didn't even celebrate it properly, showing a bitta kindness to the Hornets:
If there's any positive Watford can take from this demolition, it's that this was only one match. However, it remains to be seen what sorta damage to their confidence has been done.
City meanwhile, served notice. That Norwich fiasco was only one match. They''re still City.
