By the Way, Liverpool Won the Club World Cup

There's only one side that gets excited about winning the Club World Cup.

And that's the club that wins the Cup.

Ever since FIFA got the idea back in 2000, that means it's either a European or South American team. All the other regional champions around the world know they're only in the competition as bracket fodder, so their care level isn't very high.

In its infinite money-grubbing wisdom, FIFA now wants to turn it from a minor scheduling annoyance for the clubs involved into a major scheduling annoyance.

For now, though, the team that's just damn glad to be down in the desert playing its little patootie off is none other than Liverpool.

Add those to last season's 97-point second-place Premiership finish plus this one's ensconcement at the top, and it's no wonder Jürgen Klopp received an enthusiastic contract extension.

All he has to do now is lead the Reds to their first league title since 1990, and he'll become immortal on Merseyside.

Half of it, anyway.
