FC Bayern's Two Road Goals Put Sevilla in a Pothole

After their hard-earned victory against Manchester United in the last round, Sevilla learned the hard way what they probably already knew.

Los Rojiblancos may have their team colors in common with FC Bayern, but that's about it.

In two-leg competitions like the Champions Cup bracket stage, the ability to score away goals is a measuring stick of quality.

And it's quite clear that the Andalusian side doesn't measure up.

Sevilla gave it a game run, but the margin for error at this level is razor thin. They also discovered that the hard way as two deflected goals were the difference in Bayern's 1-2 result.

Die Röten did what they always do, gradually taking control of a match in the expectation of forcing crucial mistakes. This match wasn't as close as the score, and the tally on their side of the scoreboard wasn't luck.

Spurred on by the sellout crowd, Sevilla came out strong from the start, withstanding numerous thrusts by the Germans. This made it all the more frustrating when Pablo Sarabia absolutely blew a chance to foil the stats showing Bayern's dominance in possession:

What was he thinking, indeed.

It may well have been the enormity of the situation overwhelmed Sarabia's hurried reaction, but that just can't happen at this level.

Dude made amends of sorts on the half-hour, though:

The referee could've checked the ball for a scent of deodorant, but maybe he subconsciously figured Sarabia deserved a break. Perhaps, because he's gonna have to live with that earlier miss for a long while.

Bayern spent much of the match looking for Franck Ribery, and he did figure prominently on an even more egregious Sevillista mistake.

This time a German cross got a bit of help, thanks to Jesús Navas:

Amazing, isn't it?

Bayern controlled the match, but all the key highlights shined the spotlight on Sevilla. More accurately, on their mistakes.

Ribery finally created the ultimate moment with minimal home-side bungling by finding teammate Thiago Alcantara who put the match away with a rather messy header:

What else would one have expected?

Besides a Bayern victory, that is.
