Bayern Goes Top in a Red Card Weekend

For Die Roten, what the referee pulled outta his pocket in the early going was a welcome sight.

For Borussia Dortmund, not so much.

FC Bayern's match with RB Leipzig went from crucial to comfortable within the first quarter hour when Red Bull center back Willi Orban was exiled. Meanwhile, Dortmund saw one of their own shown the gate on the hour, after which the one-way traffic became inevitable.

Not a good look when one is trying to hold on to a piece of the Bundesliga top spot.

But there it is. Once Der BVB's Dan-Axel Zagadou went straight red without passing Go but still collecting a suspension, Hannover 96's 4-2 triumph was a done deal:

Definitely.

Especially when the usual pacesetters sees a red card go their way:

RB Leipzig was reduced to pinball bumpers in that Bayern 2-0 victory.

So the Bundesliga table is starting to look the way it does every damn year:

Bundesliga standings

Thus, a weekend when the top four clubs were in action against each other devolved into football's version of Calvinistic predestination.

Bummer.
