The Ottawa Senators Are Definitely Still a Hockey Team
In the context of organized professional sports, the Ottawa Senators have lived through a very public hell over the past year or so, both on and off the ice.
The rancid 28-43-11 finish was the least of their concerns, as there were several daytime-televsion-quality melodramas playing out all at once.
Most notably, there's the cyberbullying fiasco involving the special lady friends of former Senators Erik Karlsson and Mike Hoffman.
It really doesn't, but such is life with the dysfunctional Senators.
The constant negativity and subsequent fan apathy have taken a personal toll on many in the organization, including GM Pierre Dorion, who doesn't seem particularly enthusiastic about the rapidly approaching new season.

You hear that, Senators faithful?
Your GM is fairly optimistic about the prospects of having a team this season.
It's worth pointing out at this time that the Senators also had a team last season, such as it was.
Based on the immutable law of averages, things are likely to improve some this season, although it doesn't inspire much confidence when your GM stares off into the deep, dark void in the middle of a live interview.
You will find no answers in the abyss, Mr. Dorion.
