Canucks' Pettersson Racks Up 5-Point Night in Goalfest with Avs
Hockey is damn near religion in Sweden.
As evidence, during the 2017-2018 season, 98 Swedes played at least one NHL game.
For years, it's seemed like two NHL clubs have imported them in bulk:
- The Detroit Red Wings in their heyday, and now, they're reloading; and
- The Vancouver Canucks, for whom the term heyday is a foreign concept, not that the Sedin twins didn't do their bit.
So, Sweden's known for its hockey players, among other things.
Now, it's looking likely the Nux have found another gem from the Tre Kronor -- three crowns -- program.
Elias Pettersson has been as advertised.
Dude's been kinda there in the early season, and then, when Colorado came to Lotusland, Pettersson created an avalanche of his own.
He put together a 5-point night, highlighted by a clever ricochet-off-the-wall pass to set up Brock Boeser. Watch for it in the second period as part of Vancouver's 7-6 overtime victory in a veritable goalfest:
Indeed. Two goals. Three assists.
In that sorta game, the only thing missing was a pond.
Before entering concussion protocol after being conged by Florida's Mike Matheson on Sat 14 Oct, Pettersson was on a roll. He'd racked up points in every Canucks game to date:
Vancouver's got a 'ways to go in their latest rebuilding effort, but at least they've got a few pillars in place.
