Mexican Stadium's Planned Crack Means the NFL Will Go On

Mother Nature has definitely been bitchy lately.

Category 4 hurricanes, horizons on fire, rising seas ...

All that's a coincidence like sunrise is a coincidence.

Then there are earthquakes.

They're just another way of showing -- for a perfectly logical reason -- when your number's up, your number's up.

And where Mexico sits, it's gonna have earthquakes. Losta earthquakes.

However, like ancient Japanese structures, that country's engineers have learned a thing or two about mitigating the damage.

Unfortunately, those Mexican engineers don't build low-rent districts.

No, those dudes build mega-structures so massive earth events cause minimum damage.

Like Mexico City's fabled Estadio Azteca, which has risen above an interesting construction history of its own.

The country's national soccer team has enjoyed many of its proudest moments there. Two World Cup finals have been staged there.

The United States men's national team knows all about it:

So, of course this venue would be deemed worthy by the NFL to host a game there.

In a season when The Shield has attendance issues here and there on the home front, another trip to the halls of Montezuma should be welcome relief.

The New England Patriots and Oakland Raiders are due to play there on Sun 19 Nov. It's possible their fans might've been slightly concerned when this footage came to light:

However, look closely.

That crack was built in to the stadium, precisely for the purpose of giving it some rumble room when 7.1 quakes hit. Kinda like that Japanese pagoda that went up in the year 670, there's a sorta fluid aspect to its structure.

Based on the video, dudes got it right.

The Raiders were there last season, downing Houston's Texans, 27-20. There were fears they'd have issues with elevation and smog, but hell, they're the Raiders.

Back in the day, that woulda been SOP in their locker room.

The Azteca holds no surprises for them, and with its planned crack, it's possible that Mother Nature won't interfere, either.

Much.
