Mahomes Owns the NFL's First-Three-Weeks' TD-Tossing Record

With great computing power and access to cyberloads of data comes great geekdom.

Even in sports. Make that especially in sports.

Baseball's no longer the sole home of redheaded stepchild stats, stuff that's not even relevant until some sorta hype shows up.

Like in the recently concluded National League Championship Series. What didn't managers Craig Counsell and Dave Robers try because of statistical micro-trends?

Ultimately, situations that can only be concocted by researches on PEDs are the ones that take data too far.

For example, seamheads couldn't be satisfied that Los Angeles Angels dual-threat Shohei Ohtani didn't just duplicate a mighty Babe Ruth feat this season, they found two more that nobody woulda given a first thought, let along a second.

So now the NFL's into it, like 3-game performance records.

What the hell do a season's first three games -- other than playoff odds -- have to do with anything in football?

But because Kansas City's second-year slinger Patrick Mahomes II is firing TD passes all over the field, someone's gotta start counting and create a record for him to break.

And that's how -- with 3⁄16 or, for data crunchers, 18.75% -- of the regular season in the books, pop the Champagne corks.

Do so in honor of not just Mahomes, but this fine supporting cast who did their bit for helping him achieve a redheaded stepchild landmark:

For what it's worth, the prior standard was Peyton Manning's 12 TD tosses in 2013.

This is probably news to Manning.

Clearly, dude does amazing things on the field of play.

For example, re-visit this NASA-tracked launch that nestled into Tyreek Hill's mitts:

That feat needs an aesthetic meter.

Then again, maybe not.

Anyway, it's no wonder the Chiefs traded Alex Smith to make way for the pitcher's kid. He could well lead them to stats that actually do matter.

Like rings.
