Kirk Cousins Continues to Charm Vikings Fans
After missing the playoffs one season removed from an NFC Championship Game appearance, a certain crusty bitterness has likely set in amongst the Minnesota Vikings fan base.
This attitude also extends to their current QB, who while putting up robust numbers in his first year with the team, didn't exactly win over any hearts and minds.
Indeed, there is something about Kirk Cousins that seems to rub people the wrong way, particularly when he morphs into Captain Checkdown.
Or when he sends out vaguely insensitive tweets.
Fortunately, we have a visual aid.
In 2010, I was mad at @KingJames for leaving Cleveland...but I’ve been in Miami for a total of 5 min and now I totally understand.

Now this may seem innocuous on the surface, but there are many passive-aggressive layers to peel away here.
It's almost as if Cousins is actively trying to alienate a fandom that's already ambivalent toward his very existence.
And it appears to be working.

As you can see, he's already lost Adam Thielen.
I’m in hopes Miami will have a job available for you real soon. 😊

Well, there is the matter of that pesky $84million in guaranteed money the Vikings handed our hero.
As a jets fan, would love for you to become a dolphin

Whoa, Mr Cousins. You could go 0-16 next year and the fans in Minnesota won’t be as upset as they’ll be over you taking subtle shots at our cold weather.

Now those Minnesotans do seem to be a proud and hearty bunch, but there is such a thing as free will.
So unless you're paying off a debt or being ironic, please flee the state immediately.
But back to Cousins, whose worst indiscretion may have been conflating his value to the level of King James.
He did try to diffuse the situation with something resembling humor.

However, this wasn't received particularly well, either.

I liked that one Kirk. Shoot out of the slump.

Yeah, it might be time to stop and reflect.
