Angry White Dude: ESPN, You're Fired!

And so the purge has begun.

Last week, ESPN laid off -- which is a nicer word for fired -- right around 100 people.

The big story isn't really whom they fired, but who they didn't.

Don't get me wrong, the alleged World Wide Loss-Leader got a few right. Danny Kanell haszero talent, and Trent Dilfer's been stealing money from them for nine years just because he's the least talented QB to ever win a Super Bowl.

I'm glad I don't accidentally channel surf into them anymore.

They also choose to keep several of the attractive females who bring nothing to a TV broadcast except sleeveless dresses and short skirts. Isn't that a Fox News formula? Who says ESPN is left-wing biased?

But hey, if you fire them, who are the former athletes going to flirt with?

ESPN's hatchet team certainly got a few wrong. Among them:

  • Len Elmore ... 21 years down the drain.
  • Ed Werder ... 17 years up in smoke.
  • Jay Crawford ... 14 years tossed aside.

Ironically, they had one of the strongest hockey reporting staffs on the continent. Emphasis on had.

Now, let's get to the meat of the situation and the reasons that ESPN is losing viewers and listeners:

  • Their basic-cable gouge is a prime factor why cord-cutting exists, and
  • Their on-air talent and their talk/yell shows stink.

It almost seems like their business model is in denial, hoping for a revival that, to date, shows no signs of being there.

That's their thinking?

Maybe this explains how in the world Michael Smith and Jemele Hill have a job at ESPN. These two have been bounced around all over theschedule, but you can't hide rotten. Remember His & Hers? Of course you don't. it stunk.

The new show they've been handed used to be the 6:00pm SportsCenter. Now it's called The Six and its ratings are already down.

Why? Maybe you'll notice a theme here: the show stinks. No matter what the récipe, you know what they say about making chicken salad ...

As bad  those two are, there's room at the top for only one worst person on the air at ESPN.

Dudes and dudettes: Dan Le Bartard.

Underscoring my sentiments, he's the worst of the worst, hands down. Taking it to another level, he's equally the worst on radio and TV. I remember when that 10am-1pm edt time slot was must listen, but that was when the best was there: Colin Cowherd.

So whatever happened to Herd? Well he signed with Fox Sports.

How did I know for sure?

He's co-hosting with a blonde. How else?

Anyway, how did ESPN react? They found their moment and fired him!

So they canned the best they had and replaced him with the worst ever.  Do you really have to wonder why their ratings are in a death spiral?

If you know of anyonewho's contemplating suicide, 'd urge you to do everything within your power to keep them away from the TV during Le Batard's TV show with his dad and some dude called  Bomani Jones. Watching this garbage will certainly push anyone over the edge.

Bottom line is this:  ESPN is a business. They shouldemploy the best people they can. When they give people jobs based upon their skin color, nationality, and/or sex as opposed to their talent, they're setting themselves up to fail.

ESPN is failing.

The majority of their shows are beyond bad, and many of their high-profile on-air personalities stink. I really wonder if any of their higher-ups even listen or watch some of the junk they're putting out there.

On second thought they probably chose not to watch.

Just like the rest of us are doing.
