UCF Confidently Stops Auburn to Complete Undefeated Season

Gotta say, the Auburn Tigers were pretty damn impressive in this one.

They were able to match South Florida's effort in staying within a touchdown of the UCF Golden Knights.

Sure, there's sour-grapes bitching by players from the Plains, but the reality is UCF is that good, possibly approaching the Tigers in talent here and there, but definitely surpassing them in team preparation and play.

The axiom states that the most important skill a college coach can possess is recruiting proficiency.

Hard to argue, but there are certain exceptions.

  • Chris Petersen comes to mind with what he did at Boise State,
  • Bill Snyder makes the most of his squad's talent at Kansas State, and
  • Matt Campbell at Iowa State is showing signs of being mentioned in the same breath.

If anyone wears the crown as team whisperer these days, it's well and truly Scott Frost.

Kinda cool that dude returned to UCF after doing a bitta headhunting for his new gig at Nebraska and brought his entire staff back with him so they could tackle the task of completing a totally undefeated season.

The Knights definitely did that, 34-27:

UCF will bask in this season for a long while.

The next point of interest will be how they build on it.

As for Frost, he built the Golden Knights on the vast wealth of football talent in Florida. It'll be different in corn country.

The Cornhuskers built their glory day empires on importing a legion of skill position talent from Texas.

They're not in a conference that can guarantee those dudes a home-state appearance anymore, so somehow, Frost is gonna have to rebuild that pipeline based on other perks.

If he's proved one thing, though, it's that whomever he recruits, odds are they'll be better when operating in his system with his staff.
