The Citadel Was Competitive against Alabama until They Weren't

We'll file this one under theatre of the absurd.

In a cartoonish matchup between the best college football team on the planet and a middling FCS program, the Citadel was inexplicably tied with Alabama at halftime.

Please understand that the Crimson Tide's smallest haltime lead this season was 16 points at LSU.

The prospect of an upset was non-existent, a fact even embraced by the Bulldogs themselves:

When woefully outmanned, sometimes your only recourse is to make the funny.

Incredibly, things got even better after the coin toss, as those feisty Bulldogs actually scored points, something that hasn't happened to Bama in almost a month.

That triple-option is a real bitch.

The Citadel was giddy, even talking a little smack.

We can only assume that Nick Saban wasn't so pleased with the 10-10 deadlock at the half.

Actually, he showed remarkable restraint in that clip, but there probably weren't any pony rides or balloon animals in that Bama locker room.

Sadly, the second half did need to be played, and the Tide inevitably pulled away, winning 50-17.

However, the Bulldogs were getting a generous 53½ points, so these brave kids did cover the spread.

In the industry, this is referred to as a moral victory.
